Mapping the Human Adipose Tissue Cells and Intercellular Communication

Focus Adipose
Method Single Cell Transcriptomics

Project Summary

This network will characterize the single nucleus transcriptomes and intercellular communication networks of human adipose tissue cells (adipocytes and stroma-vascular cells) across fat depots, sex, and ethnicity.

Results & Resources

This project generated annotated cellular atlases of visceral and subcutaneous adipose tissues across sex and Jewish and Arab-Bedouins ethnicities. Initial progress toward these atlases identified new subset-specific marker genes and a list of receptors and ligands expressed in this subset, uncovering new intercellular communication signals used by adipose tissue cells.
