bioRxiv and medRxiv

The rise of preprints in the life sciences is an example of how technology and open science are dramatically accelerating the pace of research. Traditionally, it takes anywhere from several months to several years for papers to be drafted, peer-reviewed, and published. Preprints—scientific manuscripts shared publicly prior to formal peer review—are a vehicle for innovation, allowing scientists to build off of each other’s work and enabling rapid iteration and ensuring accuracy of results through public discourse. 

Researchers around the world are sharing new scientific results in biology and health on preprint servers bioRxiv and medRxiv. These preprint repositories played an unprecedented role during the COVID-19 pandemic in making results rapidly available to the community.  CZI partners with Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory in their mission to support bioRxiv and medRxiv.
