Preprints: Sharing Scientific Results Faster with bioRxiv and medRxiv
The rise of preprints is an example of how technology and open science are accelerating research. Traditionally, it takes anywhere from several months to several years for papers to be drafted, peer-reviewed, and published — too slow for the pace of research. Preprint servers such as bioRxiv and medRxiv dramatically accelerate scientists’ ability to access information that may be relevant to their work.
Preprints are a vehicle for innovation, allowing scientists to build off of each others’ work faster. They also offer an opportunity to incorporate new types of content — and transformations of that content — into the scholarly record that anyone can access and build upon. Researchers around the world are sharing new scientific results in biology and health on preprint servers bioRxiv and medRxiv. CZI partners with Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory to support both bioRxiv and medRxiv.
