Amanda Nguyen’s Blueprint for Social Change
Amanda Nguyen is a survivor of sexual assault who, upon investigating next steps following her rape, discovered that her civil rights were not protected. She could either accept injustice or rewrite the law. She founded an organization, Rise, in 2014, to not only secure her own civil rights, but the rights of other sexual assault survivors, through the passage of The Sexual Assault Survivors’ Bill of Rights. This bill passed both at the federal level, and in 15 states, equaling 18 bills passed in the last 19 months, leading to a Nobel Peace Prize nomination for Amanda.
But she did not do it alone: Amanda attributes this success to her blueprint for social change, an organizing curriculum called Hope-a-nomics, which trains “Risers” to help pass legislation through “coaches” who bring them along in the process. Now she’s sharing her successful advocacy techniques with other budding organizations seeking social change. Amanda has laid out Hope-a-nomics tools, making hers an open-source approach that exemplifies her belief that “hope is contagious.”
