The practice of capacity building — which supercharges a leader, organization, network or movement’s ability to reach their goals and achieve lasting impact — is a lever that CZI uses alongside grantmaking to support the different fields that we serve. Our Movement & Capacity Building team helps strengthen the infrastructure and provide the resources that leaders, movements, and organizations need to drive lasting social change and expand power in historically underrepresented communities.

Our Approach
Our investment in capacity building is rooted in the growth of our grantees and supporting their infrastructure for the long-term, as well as building pathways for community solidarity and partnership. CZI offers grants, hands-on trainings, and consulting services to help strengthen an organizations’ building blocks in four key areas:
Individual
Investing in a pipeline of emerging, diverse leaders, supporting trauma and healing for impacted communities, and providing 1:1 coaching to grantee leaders
Supporting resource-sharing and collaboration among organizations so these groups can scale their impact, including cohort trainings and communities of practice
