You will apply and optimize state-of-the-art models in artificial intelligence and machine learning to solve important problems in the biomedical sciences aligned with CZI’s mission. You will be expected to be familiar and willing to push the boundaries of generative AI tools for scientific discovery. You will work as part of a team responsible for developing and deploying (Gen-) AI models that use data developed by CZI and research partners all for the purpose of contributing to greater understanding of human cell function and AI for science. You will interface with our AI cluster infrastructure team to build and maintain world class AI modeling capabilities. You will have the opportunity to work closely with teams of scientists, computational biologists, engineers within CZI and to collaborate with CZI grantees, with CZ institutes, and other external labs and organizations. Your work will inspire and enhance the production and analysis of datasets by CZ teams and collaborators. Scientific focus areas could include literature agents, models for single cell biology, imaging, genomics, and proteomics.

You will develop and maintain the tooling and infrastructure that drives the entire data lifecycle at CZI, from ingestion and processing to secure storage and access. Your work will directly support cutting-edge research, AI model training, and data analysis across the organization.

You will ensure that CZI remains a global leader in leveraging data to advance biomedical science and change medicine for generations to come. The leader will serve as the connective tissue between experimental data generation and computational modeling efforts, ensuring the initiative builds a data foundation that enables breakthrough biological insights. The Vice President of Data will be a collaborative, forward-looking leader who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment focused on delivering transformative science.

You will lead the charge to drive the strategy and execution of CZI's AI/ML security program, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and compliance requirements.

You will design and implement all the data needs for our platforms, CELLxGENE Discover, CryoET, as well as the new platform we are building that has a focus on data for AI and the virtual cell, in order to enable scientists to further interrogate our very large and growing corpus of data without any need to download the data itself or have any computational expertise. You will work on a collaborative, multidisciplinary team to develop solutions for our scientist users to accelerate their workflows and accelerate the pace of scientific discovery. You will be responsible for setting the direction of how our teams ingest, transform, validate, process, store, monitor, and utilize petabytes of data for ease of use, search and modeling. You will also be responsible for upscaling the engineers around you and influencing the proper technical best practices and data design for efficient and effective delivery. No prior biology experience is required for this role. You will have the opportunity to pair with Computational Biologists to develop solutions for our users and be able to learn about biology from experts on our team. Our tech stack: Python, Terraform, AWS infrastructure, TileDB.

You will play a key role in further developing a high functioning team to streamline, secure, and enhance our HR systems, including Workday, Greenhouse, and VNDLY. You will work closely with the People team to create employee experiences leveraging process, technology, and enablement to deliver impact.

You will proactively focus on setting the direction and developing and executing the operational strategy that optimizes our resources across education. In this role, you'll be a key leader within our Education team, responsible for developing and executing the operational strategy that maximizes our impact on students and educators. You'll collaborate closely with Education leadership, product, engineering, and partnerships to ensure alignment, drive efficient decision-making, and accelerate the delivery of transformative solutions.
