Proposal Summary
To enhance the infrastructure to support the continuous development and growing community of the popular algorithm MACS for gene regulation studies, in order to expand its features and adapt to new technologies such as single-cell ATAC-seq.
Project
MACS has been an essential software for calling peaks from ChIP-seq, DNase-seq, and ATAC-seq experiments in gene regulation studies. Initially published in 2008 and later updated to MACS2, this open source tool has enjoyed an annual increase in citations which totaled about 7,000.
