NGFF: Democratize Access to Next-Generation Bioimaging Data
Project
Open Microscopy Environment Consortium
Funding Cycle
5
Proposal Summary
To coordinate and foster next-generation file formats while increasing community access to public imaging data.
Project
N-dimensional image data are routinely used to measure the structure, function and behavior of biological systems, but can be notably difficult to share and publish, which means that conventionally, only low-quality representations are used. In 2019, the Open Microscopy Environment (OME) Consortium began developing an open specification designed for scalable cloud-based data repositories known as next-generation file format (NGFF). This project will continue the development of NGFF, as well as design and implement specific submitted proposals by funding positions at the nonprofit German BioImaging Society.
