Building Bioimaging Capacity in South America

Award Expanding Global Access to Bioimaging

Project Summary

The Mercosur Center for Structural Biology (CeBEM, Centro de Biología Estructural del Mercosur) is a network of groups from Uruguay, Paraguay, Brazil and Argentina that is internationally recognized for their scientific research in structural biology and bioimaging. This project aims to consolidate the organization of CeBEM to promote a solid and sustainable network of groups in South America, extend the capacities of structural biology and build concrete capacities in integrative bioimaging, and develop operational bioimaging standards for Latin America and advance bioimaging.

To encourage collaboration, this team will establish an exchange program for scientists and students to visit CeBEM centers and attend international reference centers, along with advanced courses in integrative bioimaging. Simultaneously, the team will create a detailed landscape assessment of the technological capabilities in the region to inform strategic decision-making for further developing biosciences.
