Cori Bargmann:  I’m delighted to announce that Marc Malandro, who recently led the University of Pittsburgh’s Innovation Institute, will be joining the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative as the new VP of Operations for Science.

Marc will be instrumental in executing the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative’s ambitious goals for accelerating science. He has a deep knowledge of biomedical science, and a creative and collaborative attitude that brings different groups together toward a common goal. At the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative we’re partnering with scientists in new ways — we’re funding the research of academic scientists, and our engineers are also working side by side with scientists to build new technologies. To have the broadest impact, we expect to engage with partners from science, foundations, companies, and governments. Marc will be a driving force to make these connections a reality.

Marc holds a Ph.D in biochemistry from the University of Florida. Early in his career, he co-founded Sagres Discovery, a systems biology company, and for the last 13 years, he led the University of Pittsburgh’s Office of Enterprise Development and Innovation Institute as the Founding Director. He’s also been Vice Chancellor for Technology Management and Commercialization at Pitt.

We’re thrilled to have Marc on board to share his expertise in advancing science and technology.
