The Human Cell Atlas seeks to map and characterize all the 37 trillion cells in a healthy human body: cell types, numbers, locations, relationships, and molecular components. But how is that humanly possible? Collaboration is the key.

The Human Cell Atlas Project was inspired by an enthusiastic community of scientists, physicians, and engineers from all around the world working together. The project has three major focus areas: building a data coordination platform, creating computational tools, and grantmaking. Once complete, HCA will be a fundamental resource for scientists, allowing them to better understand how healthy cells work, and what goes wrong when disease strikes. Finding a way to prevent, manage, or cure all disease in this century may sound like an impossible challenge. This is one of the ways we are working to get there.
