The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative Celebrates Five-Year Anniversary with 2020 Annual Letter

Share

Today, we’re celebrating the five-year anniversary of the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI) with the release of CZI’s 2020 Annual Letter.

In 2015, Dr. Priscilla Chan and Mark Zuckerberg announced their pledge to give away 99 percent of their wealth, just before their family of two became three. And so CZI was born, and five years later, the organization has grown into a family of hundreds of employees and partners around the world.

In this year’s annual letter, “What We’re Learning,” Priscilla and Mark reflect on lessons learned — including the most recent examples of partners across our science, education, criminal justice reform, housing, ventures and community portfolios who have risen to meet the extraordinary challenges of 2020.

About the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative

Founded by Dr. Priscilla Chan and Mark Zuckerberg in 2015, the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI) is a new kind of philanthropy that’s leveraging technology to help solve some of the world’s toughest challenges — from eradicating disease, to improving education, to reforming the criminal justice system. Across three core Initiative focus areas of Science, Education, and Justice & Opportunity, we’re pairing engineering with grant-making, impact investing, and policy and advocacy work to help build an inclusive, just and healthy future for everyone.
