The true measure of any society can be found in how it treats its most vulnerable members. The poor, under-resourced, and animals are some of the most vulnerable in society. I chose to support the Global Health and Development Fund from the Effective Altruism Funds organization because it addresses the state of the global poor in efficient ways by funding outstanding, evidence-based opportunities to provide better access to healthcare and economic development where it’s needed most across the globe.

The second organization I selected rescues neglected pets from in the Southern US, addresses their health issues and finds them loving permanent homes. My spouse and I fostered dogs from this and many other groups in several states. This rescue is the best we have ever worked with. They help to reduce some of the suffering of animals in their small part of the world.

The true measure of any society is how it treats its most vulnerable. I’ve donated to Meals on Wheels, who provide the elderly with access to affordable hot meals. Kitten Rescue 101 and Cooper’s Dream, rescues, cares for and finds stable loving homes for cats and dogs.

In my life and work, I am guided by my morals, data, what I believe to be uncommon and common sense, and the simple goal to reduce suffering for all creatures in any way I can. At CZI, I work to improve the quality and representativeness of scientific outputs, as well as those who participate in generating them and could potentially benefit from them.
