For my life of service I donated to the HER Foundation due to symptoms I had during pregnancy. I was confused about how difficult the first trimester of pregnancy was and how no one seemed to talk about how bad it was, until I then discovered that my situation wasn’t what was experienced by everyone. While roughly 70% of pregnant people experience nausea and vomiting, about 2% of pregnancies result in Hyperemesis Gravidarum, a condition that is characterized by severe nausea and vomiting, which is extremely debilitating and often results in hospitalization, dehydration, severe weight loss, pregnancy risks, mental health complications/ PTSD in the pregnant person, and inability to function in their daily lives (work or care for themselves and/or dependents). While some risk factors for HG are known, there are no known proven causes and no FDA approved treatments for HG, and there is very little public knowledge of the condition. The HER Foundation was an incredible resource for me to understand HG, advocate for myself when I was told that my symptoms were “normal” by doctors, and to find support. They provide valuable resources to those suffering with this condition that aren’t available anywhere else. I am so grateful to be able to use this gift to support this organization that supports the likely hundreds of thousands of pregnant people suffering with HG.

Giving back to my community and causes is important to me by supporting organizations with volunteering, service, and financial resources.
