Software engineering changed my life for the better in many important aspects. I grew up as an immigrant living below the poverty line and graduated with a non-Computer Science degree a few years after the Great Recession. I experienced joblessness and hopelessness for a period of time. The decision to learn programming opened doors for me to contribute to society in ways I’d never imagined. Programming also provided the financial resources and security that allowed me to support my families and friends ever since. Most importantly, I’m grateful to say that software engineering is a lifelong passion for me that it makes every day at work feel like play. I admire and support Black GIrls Code’s mission to nurture the next generation of technologists and increase the number of women of color in this exciting and fulfilling professional family. Our industry and the world will be a much better place with their contributions, and I can’t wait to see what they build!

Being a Front End Software Engineer at CZI is a dream come true for me, because I get to help build meaningful and impactful products that serve people who dedicate their lives to improve our society, especially those in Science, Education, and Justice & Opportunity. Joining forces with them gives me hope that we are in control of making a better future for everyone.
At work and at home, I live a life of service by starting every day with a simple prayer to wish everyone joy and happiness. This helps me set the tone of the day to seek needs in others that I can help fulfill, whether it’s resolving a technical challenge, offering a listening ear, or providing financial support to distressed families and nonprofit organizations.
I’m grateful for being able to give, and living a life of service allows me to give more.
