Candidate Journey
Here at the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, we are dedicated to maintaining a great experience for every candidate. We've created a series of tips to best support you throughout your hiring journey.
Application
Our recruiting team closely collaborates with each hiring team to understand the qualifications needed for all of our open positions across the organization. Once you have applied, a recruiter will review your application to determine if your work experience and skills align with the necessary proficiencies of this position, as well as our other open roles. This recruiter will be in touch to schedule some time to connect if they determine that you could be a good fit for CZI.
Assessment
To gain a better understanding of what you are looking for in your next position as well as learn more about your previous work experience and skills, we will progress to an initial assessment. This part of the journey will vary between each role but may consist of a screen with the hiring manager, a technical phone screen, or a conversation with a member of the team.
Interview
If you and your recruiter still feel that you could be well-suited for this position following the assessment, you will move forward with meeting the team. This will provide you an opportunity to learn more about the team and for us to gain a deeper understanding of your skills and experience. The interview process will vary for each role at CZI to ensure that our hiring teams are able to properly assess against the qualifications needed.
Learn how to prepare for your interview
For the safety of our candidates and employees, the majority of interviews will take place virtually. To familiarize yourself with our space, take a peek at our NEW office in downtown Redwood City.
Offer
Following the completion of all interviews, our hiring team will make a final decision and the recruiter will be in touch to share the outcome of your interviews. If the team would like to move forward, the recruiter will discuss this and the details of our proposed offer with you. The recruiter will be there to answer any questions you have to support you in your decision.
Onboarding
Welcome! We are very excited you will be joining the team and contributing to CZI’s mission. Once you have accepted and signed your offer, your recruiter will introduce you to a member of our onboarding team to begin the process of onboarding you as a CZI employee. They will support and provide you with information needed leading up to your start date and walk you through what you can expect in your first couple of weeks at CZI.
How to Prepare for Your Interviews
Candidate Interview Guides by Department
Please note our interview experience varies across our roles depending on the qualifications needed. These guides highlight some roles we hire for frequently and the interviews you are likely to encounter if interviewing for that role.
Our Community Participation Guidelines
CZI hosts and participates in many different communities in service of our mission. Within these communities, CZI is committed to supporting an environment where everyone is welcome and communication is direct, kind, and honest. Our Community Participation Guidelines are expected behaviors for engaging in CZI communities and reflect our organizational values and DEI principles, including a commitment to fostering truly inclusive work.
-
Be Direct and Kind
We speak directly and honestly, including when we disagree or want to offer feedback. We are kind, thoughtful, and constructive in our interactions.
-
Practice Inclusion
We intentionally seek a diversity of backgrounds, experiences, and viewpoints and elevate the different identities at the table. Each of us recognizes our power and confronts our own biases so that others can be fully present.
-
Make Space
We make space for everyone to contribute. If we find ourselves dominating a discussion, we step back and encourage other voices to join in. We pay attention and listen carefully.
-
Take Accountability
We hold ourselves accountable, and even if well-intentioned, take responsibility for our impact. If we harm someone through our words or actions, we apologize sincerely and correct our behavior.
-
Bring Solutions
When we identify a problem, conflict, or gap, we raise it and work to build solutions through authentic engagement, dialogue, and curiosity.
