Chip-scale Light Sheet for High Spatiotemporal Resolution Imaging

Award Scialog: Advancing BioImaging Cycle 1

Project Summary

This team will develop a rapidly reconfigurable nanophotonic chip to generate optical lattices for ultra thin, light sheet-based volumetric imaging of subcellular dynamics. The use of nanophotonic chips, in lieu of complex multi-objective setups, will enable flexible, compact and low-cost implementation, making the technology widely accessible. The compact and customizable nature of the nanophotonic chips can enable single objective imaging without the need for complex remote focusing, and additionally, removing the necessity of orthogonal objective setups and spatial light modulators. With the Chip-based Lattice Light sheet Microscope (ChiLL Microscope), we can practically enable the use of microfluidics or electrophysiology tools to probe subcellular dynamics in cells and transparent tissues.
