Project JupyterHub
Partner Organization The Turing Way
Funding Cycle D&I

Proposal Summary

To broaden participation in the JupyterHub community by establishing a role dedicated to strategy and stewardship for pathways into and throughout the community, as well as programs that provide onboarding and mentorship for historically underrepresented groups.

Project

JupyterHub
Proposed Work

This proposal aims to broaden participation in the JupyterHub community by developing strategy and structure for pathways into and throughout the JupyterHub community, particularly for those from historically underrepresented groups. This work will create a new role, the JupyterHub Community Strategic Lead, who will build community strategy around these pathways, and pilot a two-step program to provide support, mentorship, and opportunities for growth for underrepresented groups in the JupyterHub community. In addition, the team will partner with The Turing Way. The Turing Way is a leader in building inclusive, effective team dynamics and pathways to leadership, and a collaboration with them for strategic guidance will provide the Community Strategic Lead with support they need to be effective. This combination of high level strategy and execution combined with focused programs around broadening participation, will be an effective way to improve diversity, equity, and inclusion in the JupyterHub ecosystem, set a foundation for newcomers to become community members and contributors, and develop pathways for their growth to leadership positions.
