Assessing the Relevance of Organoids to Model Inter-Individual Variation

Focus Brain

Project Goal

To generate reference atlases of the fetal cortex and fetal liver from multiple human individuals, and assess the relevance of pluripotent stem cell-derived cerebral and liver organoids to recapitulate the variation in cell-type specific gene expression profiles.

Results & Resources

During this project, the Treutlein and collaborating labs analyzed cerebral organoid development using single-cell RNA-sequencing, revealing gene expression features that arise during human forebrain, midbrain and hindbrain development (as described in their preprint). Additionally, they have produced an open-source data visualization browser of analyzed single-cell RNA-seq and ATAC-seq data from cerebral organoids.
