Proposal Summary

To support the continued maintenance, growth, development, and community engagement of Matplotlib, the foundational plotting library of the Scientific Python Ecosystem.

Project

Matplotlib

Matplotlib is the foundational data visualization library for the Scientific Python Ecosystem, with over a million users, including researchers in biomedical imaging, microscopy, and genomics. Historically. Matplotlib has been maintained by a primarily volunteer community, however given the sheer size of the project and adoption, paid maintainers are now required. This grant will support ongoing code maintenance, incremental enhancements to the library, and community management These tasks are critical to the long term health of Matplotlib and complement and enable, not replace, volunteer efforts.
