Project Description
A critical question for ALS is why particular types of motor neurons are particularly susceptible to degeneration. This team brings together complementary expertise from quantitative systems biology and stem cell biology to explore their novel hypothesis that membrane-localized proteasome may act as a neuroprotectant in disease-resistant motor neurons. They will build on preliminary work from the Vogel lab, which has used stem cell-derived motor neuron lines to suggest that some populations of motor neurons are resistant to proteostatic stress.
