Supporting Bay Area DREAMERs with TheDream.us

Share

The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative is proud to partner with thedream.us to help 400 DREAMers across the Bay Area, including Ana, receive a college education. We’re thrilled to congratulate the class of 139 new scholars who will be attending Bay Area schools this fall!

“My college education is really important to me. I want to be successful not only for myself, but for my family and all the sacrifices they’ve made. I want to show them that I got something extremely beneficial out of what they did for me.”

Ana, a rising sophomore at UC Santa Cruz, is spending her summer as a camp counselor fostering curiosity for kids of all ages through activities including coding, fashion, and even bread-making. She is a DREAMer – a young undocumented immigrant who came to the United States at a young age. Ana moved from Lima, Peru to San Mateo, CA with her father when she was just 3 years old. “All I remember is here in the States. I don’t remember anything from Peru. I’ve stayed in San Mateo, California my whole life.”

Despite the US being the only home they have ever known, undocumented students like Ana receive no federal assistance to pay for college.
